Hitting Close to Home

I just found out this morning that Matthew, one of the boys who works with us here on the compound, was admitted to the Cholera hospital on Sunday night. The very same cholera hospital that we passed yesterday and that I blogged about yesterday! Man, it hits close to home when your friends are there. Matthew is the one on the right, in the pinkish shirt.
Richard is out at the moment, but as soon as he comes in, I need to ask him about what we can do to help. Even if we could just bring him some fresh fruit or something...

Anyways, the good thing is that he's a strong, generally healthy young man, and so should recover fairly quickly, unless he contracts something else in that cholera hospital! Sounds like with treatment, recovery rate is very high, so I'm sure he'll be ok... But please pray for Matthew and his family and for the rest of the cholera patients here. With the coming of the rainy season, it's only going to get worse here. Thankfully, we have our own bore hole water supply here on the compound, so the risk to us here is fairly low. But it's not easy to see the rest of the folks in this city suffer.

Oh wow. That sucks. Just saw on the news that 64 people died of cholera in southern Somalia YESTERDAY alone! Will be praying for your friend.
