Just a quick update again

Sorry for the lack of blogging.  It's been rather busy around here.  We've also had a few nights without electricity, which saps my desire to blog.  It's also been getting hot.  Which also saps my desire to do anything.  It's been difficult to get myself to the office in the mornings - especially when the temperature in my office has been hovering between 38C - 41C at 9am.  There's a new building being built on our compound, which means they've chopped down a bunch of trees, which means from about 6am until noon, the sun literally beats into my office, heating everything up.  I have curtains, to try to keep the sun out, but it just doesn't cut it.  And it never cools down, as the concrete walls just hold in the heat from the previous day :(  It's a serious deterrent to wanting to get to the office in the morning!  So normally, I start working from home over my morning cup of coffee - much, much cooler in my verandah with the refreshing morning breezes!

But, I'm not going to complain. Well, at least, I'm going to TRY not to complain!  No guarantees that I will succeed at that!  I have a lovely home, full of way too much stuff, with fans, a fridge for cold water, cold water to drink, internet, a bed, tons of clothes, way too much food, friends, family, the ability and resources to basically do what I please, and a knowledge of a God who put me here for a purpose and continues to provide so much more than I could ever need or even imagine.

So what, on earth, do I have to complain about?!  That's right, absolutely nothing.  So I will try.  But I have to admit, it's hard to do when I'm sweating in my office with a dehydration headache at 10am, looking at my page (yes, not my list, but my page) of things to do.

I had a few setbacks today, too, on getting through my list.  Much of what I need to get done in the next few days revolves around riseographs and photocopiers.  But of course, we were almost out of paper, so I asked my colleague if he could pick up some paper on his way home from a meeting.  Poor guy stopped in several stationary shops, and couldn't find any paper.Everyone was out.  Anyway, we proceeded to print books with the paper that we had on hand.  Then my amazing helper ran out of staples.  So I asked my colleague to pick up some more staples on the way home from a different errand.  But he wasn't successful at any of his errands today (including my staple errand) because all the Ministries, shops and travel agents were closed today for a public holiday - in fact, it's supposedly a 5 day public holiday!

Fortunately, my colleague went out later again to meet his relatives, and he happened to find some paper and staples at a shop, so tomorrow, I can continue to wade through my to-do list!  But it is a bit of a sign of things to come - people are uncertain as to what's going to happen in the coming months in this country.  So companies are getting rid of their stock and not bringing in much new stuff, which could mean a few shortages of some key bits and pieces.  We'll just pray that we have wisdom to know what sorts of things to stock up on and which things will remain unimportant until things settle again!  Anyway, it's just one more thing to keep me on my toes!

I'm trying to rush to get everything done here because I leave for Ethiopia again on Sunday!  This time, not for play, but actually for work!  Should be an interesting two weeks there, but I'm really looking forward to it!  As long as I get everything done in the next two days that needs to get done :)
