The rats

I'm somehow strangely comforted that my friend in Canada has battled the rats over there. But like her, I grew up in a place where there were no rats. (argh, went to look for her hilarious blog post about her battle with rats, but can't find it at the moment :( ).

Anyways, last night, as I was being warmed by the cat at the foot of my bed (he doesn't always get to sleep with me - just when it's really cold!), he suddenly bolted up straight and made a beeline to the edge of the mosquito net. He obviously saw or heard something scurrying past - I didn't see it or hear it, so it must have been on the other side of my bedroom wall, which is made with just a very, very thin piece of wood (not even plywood - more like particle board).

And then, just a few minutes ago, I heard a big clatter in the kitchen, even though everyone is safely tucked into their mosquito nets for the night (and Zane is out having a guys' night out with his buddies somewhere). I grabbed my head lamp, and sure enough, all of the spices were knocked off the shelf.

So tomorrow I declare war on the rats again. I can't declare war tonight - too tired! But tomorrow, watch out you little critters. Tomorrow will be the last sunrise you ever see...!

Maybe they're not rats. Maybe they're ghosts! OR, maybe they're ghosts of rats...Just a thought.
