Yup, it's Malaria Awareness Week here. Which means I've been getting text messages from the Ministry of Health all week, telling me to sleep under a mosquito net. The Ministry is getting high tech! I'm still not quite sure how they got my phone number, though!
Then today, they had a big celebration at the University, which is nearby our compound. One of our staff came back to the compound after the celebration, bearing gifts of baseball caps for everyone on his team. They were some of the nicer promotional caps I've seen - urging everyone to avoid malaria by sleeping under a net.
The guy astutely observed that if they really wanted to prevent malaria, the organizers of the awareness week should have spent the money on giving everyone a mosquito net to actually sleep under, rather than spending their budget on caps telling everyone to sleep under a mosquito net. Makes sense to me. But those caps sure did look smart. Too bad they weren't promoting sun-stroke awareness week.
